Obituary for Jennifer N. Carlsten
Jennifer N. Carlsten, 72, passed away due to complications related to Alzheimer’s disease on Monday October 28th at the Hope Hospice Center in Providence.
Jennifer North was born in Warwick on April 23, 1947. She grew up in the Old Buttonwoods and graduated from Warwick Vets, class of 1965. She attended the University of Rhode Island and received her teaching degree from R.I. College in 1973
Growing up Jennifer and her family had a TV show called "Gracious Living with the Norths" which aired in local TV in the 1950’s
She was an avid gardener and a talented artist. Jennifer achieved National Board Certification in art education and taught special education and art in the Coventry School district for 25 years before retiring in 2015.
Jennifer was runner up for the Miss Rhode Island Pageant in 1967. Her talent was playing the guitar and singing “Try to Remember”
Jennifer is survived by her loving husband of 52 years George “Jeff” Carlsten of Warwick and daughter: Emily B. Carlsten of Redondo Beach, CA, a brother: Eric North and a sister: Claudia Everest. She also leaves behind six grandchildren: Piper, Laney and Levi McGrath of Duxbury MA and Mason, Beau and Gunnar Barton of Redondo Beach, CA. and son in Laws Jared McGrath and Todd Barton.
She was pre deceased by her daughter: Lindsay Carlsten McGrath of Duxbury MA and her parents Clyde and “Bunny” North the former weather woman from Channel 10 in the 1960’s
Jennifer will always be remembered for her unique sense of humor and was the life of any party she attended. She loved all animals big and small. Jennifer lived and laughed, loved and left and the world will never be the same without her.
A memorial service will be held in the Chapel at Old Buttonwoods on Saturday June 27, 2020 at 11am.. In lieu of flowers, please consider offering a random act of kindness in Jennifer’s memory.
