Obituary for Barbara Lowther Sjoberg
Barbara Lowther Sjoberg, 97, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, December 22, 2021. She was the beloved wife of the late E. Raphael “Ray’ Sjoberg. She leaves behind her brother-in-law Robert Carlson of Charlton, MA., eight nieces and nephews, and ten great nieces and nephews.
Barbara was born in Quantico, Virginia on October 27, 1924, the only child of Minter and Ethel (Hines) Lowther. She grew up in Rhode Island and spent the majority of her life in Pawtucket. Barbara was a 1944 graduate from Westbrook Junior College in Maine.
In her early years, Barbara was involved in local Providence radio and TV. She had her own cooking show and was one of the first Autocrat ladies.
Barbara had a compassionate heart for furry friends. She helped many wandering pets that she would find on the street and take care of them until there was a place for them to go. Barbara also was concerned about the world around her and was a member of Save the Bay. She volunteered many hours for different environmental organizations.
Barbara was also known for her gift of gab! She told many interesting stories and definitely had a mind of her own. She could strike up a conversation with any person and walk away knowing all about them!
A Memorial Service will be held on January 5th at 11:30am in the Historic Chapel of Swan Point Cemetery, Blackstone Blvd. Providence. Donations in her memory may be made to the Pawtucket Animal Shelter, 401 Newport Ave., Pawtucket, R.I. 02861.
