Born in Providence, Phillip was a lifelong Rhode Island resident. He graduated from Veteran’s Memorial High School in 1964 and Providence College in 1969. Prior to his retirement in 2008, Phillip worked tirelessly to improve the lives of children as a Casework Supervisor for The Department of Children, Youth and Families. After retirement, he devoted his time to caring for his wife.
In addition to Donna, his wife of more than 50 years, Phillip is survived by his two children, Zoe R. (Steiner) McGrath and husband Andrew of West Greenwich and Todd J. Steiner of Providence; three sisters Nancy (Steiner) Gizzarelli and husband Gilbert, Barbara (Steiner) Bekier and husband Chester and Jane Steiner; two grandchildren that he adored, Emerson Grace and Jack Henry, and many beloved extended family, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Phillip was kind, loving, and funny, he loved music, especially 70’s disco, gardening, and a challenging crossword puzzle, he was an amazing cook, and always had a story to tell. He will be missed by all who knew him.
The family would like to extend special gratitude to HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice Center and staff for their loving care of Phillip during his final days. Burial and memorial services will be private.
