Obituary for Thomas P. Farrell, Jr.
Thomas P. Farrell Jr. passed away peacefully on March 20, 2021 at his home in South Kingstown, RI. Tom was born on March 10, 1928 to Elizabeth Emmel Farrell and Thomas P. Farrell of Providence, RI. He graduated from LaSalle Academy in Providence, where he was known as “Ace”, in 1945. He enlisted in the Marine Corps immediately after graduating and was deployed to Japan and China from 1946-1948. Upon honorable discharge in 1949, he enrolled at Providence College and graduated in 1953. Tom had a long and distinguished career with the United States government. He married Margaret (Peg) Feeney, his beloved wife of sixty-seven years, in 1953. He and Peg raised five children together in Warwick, RI. They relocated to South Kingstown in 1983 and Tom retired shortly after. They enjoyed many happy years there, surrounded by their children, grandchildren, and many family dogs. “Pop” was beloved for his quick wit, his keen intellect, his love of history, and his appreciation for a well made Manhattan. He is survived by his devoted wife Peg, who provided loving care for him through his final days; his children Thomas J Farrell and his wife Anne Foley of West Hartford, CT; Maureen Farrell of Cranston, RI; Kevin Farrell of Concord, VT; Patrick Farrell and his wife Karen of Andover, MA; and Eileen Farrell Shepard and her husband Robert Shepard of Milton, MA. He is survived by his 4 sisters as well: Marie “Pinki” Ziolkowski of Providence, RI; Elizabeth “Babe” Tranghese of Cranston, RI; Jane McCarthy and her husband Gerry of Narragansett, RI; and Patricia Schissler and her husband Paul of Alexandria, VA. Pop was the proud and adored grandfather to Daniel Farrell, Kate Farrell and her husband Tahir Dnyl, Samuel Farrell, Rose Farrell, Zeke Farrell, Michael Shepard, and Hannah Shepard.
