Obituary for George V. Morris
Dr. George V Morris., 86, passed away peacefully Sunday at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of the late Mary (McCaffrey) Morris.
Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Patrick and Mary Morris. He has been a Seekonk resident for 20 years previously living in East Providence.
Dr. Morris was a chemistry professor at Salve Regina University for 33 years retiring in 1996. He served as Chair of the Chemistry Department for 5 years. He also worked as a Sr. Chemist at Raytheon in Portsmouth. He was a graduate of Providence College, Class of 1952 and upon graduation he joined the army and served in the Korean War. Following the war he returned to school and received a Masters and a Ph.D. from the University of Rhode Island.
In his spare time, George loved fishing and traveling with this wife in their RV.
He leaves 2 daughters: Jennifer Machado and her husband Michael of East Providence and Susan Leonard and her husband Patrick of Rehoboth, a brother William Morris of Freemont, CA as well as 4 grandchildren: Ryan and Amanda Leonard and Brittany and Christopher Machado. He was the brother of the late Edward, John and James Morris.
The funeral will be held Saturday beginning at 9:30am in the Monahan Drabble Sherman Funeral home 230 Waterman St., Providence with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am in St. Sebastian Church, Cole Ave., Providence. Burial with Military Honors will be in St. Francis cemetery. Donations in his memory may be made to the American Heart Association.
