Obituary for Claudette Genevieve Doiron
Claudette Genevieve Doiron, 81, of Providence, RI died peacefully at home surrounded by family on Wednesday, February 5, 2020. One of six children, she was born in Washington D.C. on May 30, 1938 to Nora St. Clair and Claude E. Burkholder. She is survived by 4 of her siblings, Claude Burkholder Jr., Lorraine St. Clair, Anne Mayer, and Richard Pace III, her children Donna Doiron, Pamela Doiron, Michelle Doiron, and Michael Doiron, and her 4 grandchildren Zachary, Sophia, Devon, and Maya.
Jenny, as she was affectionately known, graduated from St. Joseph’s School of Nursing in association with the University of Dallas in 1959. She excelled in her chosen career as an operating room nurse starting at Massachusetts General Hospital and later moving to Rhode Island Hospital. She assisted in many different disciplines: Heart surgeries, ENT surgeries, and her favorite, orthopedics. The intensity of the job fostered strong and lasting friendships with her coworkers.
While thriving in her chosen field, she raised 4 children and their assorted dogs, cats, birds, fish, gerbils, and hamsters in a home which she maintained by using her organized and mechanically inclined brain. Her children and grandchildren were a great source of pride and joy. She loved to share their accomplishments and successes with friends and strangers alike. Her family could always rely on her to lend a helping hand, whether that meant her time, advice or financial assistance.
When she retired after more than 30 years of nursing, she was free to visit with her children, care for her grandchildren, and volunteer at the Pilgrim Senior Center in Warwick, the RI Audubon Society, and the Providence Food Bank. She always enjoyed challenging herself with number & word puzzles, scrabble games, and jigsaw puzzles.
There will be a Memorial Service held at Swan Point Cemetery 585 Blackstone Boulevard, Providence, RI 02906 in the Redwood Chapel on Monday, February 10, 2020 at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to RI Audubon Society www.asri.org or NPR in RI www.thepublicsradio.org
