Obituary for Stephen McNulty Daniels
Stephen McNulty Daniels, 71, died Monday at the Miriam Hospital surrounded by his family.  He was the loving husband of Irene (Tente) Daniels for 48 years.
Born in Providence, a son of the late Ralph and Mildred (Fisher) Daniels, he was a resident of the East Side of Providence most of his life and a winter resident of Del Ray Beach, FL.
Steve was a real estate broker on the East Side and Downtown until retiring 8 years ago. Prior to that, he was in advertising sales for the Providence Civic Center, WJAR TV and WLKW radio. He told endless stories about his time working at the Narragansett race track and the Roger WIlliams Zoo.
Active in Democratic politics, he served on the Providence  City Committee and the Ward Committee as well as on the State Democratic Committee. He learned his politics from his late Aunt Marie. As to his fashion sense, no one is certain where he learned his impeccable and unique style.
He was known as the “Cal Ripken” of the Capital Center Commission for not missing a meeting in 18 years;  he also served on the Board of Licences and the Off Street Parking Authority in Providence.
He was a member of the RI Commodores as an ambassador for his beloved home;  he was an active participant of the Sons of Irish Kings  and the Jaycee’s in Providence. He was a former Eucharistic minister at St Joseph Church in Providence.
Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Amy BD Smith and her husband Andrew of Providence; a son, Patrick S. Daniels III of Baltimore; two brothers, Ralph S. Daniels of Providence and Peter F. Daniels of Lake Oswego, OR,  and a sister, Barbara D. Tally of Brookline MA. He was an uncle, cousin, and friend to many.  It was as a grandfather that he came into his own.  Steve was known as Poppa to all of his grandchildren: Declan, Cormac, Owen Stephen and Kieran Smith and Jonah and Braeden Daniels; they will never forget his hugs. Steve will be missed by his his beloved cat Jack, his faithful companion.
The funeral will be held Saturday at 8:45 from the Monahan Drabble Sherman Funeral Home 230 Waterman St., Providence with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in St Sebastian Church, Cole Ave. Calling hours are Friday 3-6pm.
