Obituary for Marion Faget Guerin
Marion Faget Guerin, age, 97, of Two Regency Plaza, Providence, RI died of complications following Pneumonia on Monday, February 16th at Tockwotton On The Waterfront.  She was the wife of the late Robert J. Guerin and was a resident of Providence for over 75 years.  She leaves a son, Robert J. Guerin, Jr. of Reston, VA and two daughters, S. Dominique Guerin of New York, NY and Hilary V. Guerin, of Providence, RI.

Born May 4th, 1917, in her beloved city of Chicago, Marion was the daughter of the late Walter H. Faget, and his lovely wife, Viola.  While studying at the University of Chicago, she met and soon married Robert J. Guerin and began her life in New England.  She and her husband had four children, Bobby, Michael (deceased), Dominique and Hilary.  She introduced them to culture and travel when they were very young, and as they grew up, she often took them to theatre, ballet, concerts and museums in Boston, in New York, and frequently to Trinity Square Repertory Company in Providence.  She loved jazz, the Big Bands, Benny Goodman, Frank Sinatra, Lena Horne….the list goes on.

Embracing family life, Marion became an active member of her community.  She volunteered for the Junior League of Rhode Island and the American Red Cross.  Her club memberships included the Providence Art Club, the Handicraft Club, the Pottery and Porcelain Club and the Dirt Gardeners.  At the time of her death, Marion was a member of the Sakonnet Golf Club and the Elephant Rock Beach Club.

One of her greatest joys was to spend time with her family and close friends.  She loved entertaining them all, with sophisticated and delicious food she and her husband often prepared themselves at elegant dinner parties she hosted in her home as well as spontaneous, casual lunches at the beach.  She loved being near the water, particularly the summers she spent with her family in Little Compton.  Possessed of a rich sense of humor, she loved listening to, and telling, good jokes and stories, and she brought joy, laughter and happiness to all who knew her.  A warm and loving Mother, Marion had a radiant smile which lit up any room she entered.

Marion had a quick, agile wonderfully inquisitive mind.  At the age of 60, she decided to “go back to college” for her BA degree.  She graduated, with honors, from University of Rhode Island, and went on to earn her Masters degree in Counseling from Rhode Island College.  Marion also obtained a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study from Rhode Island College, and when she was half way through her doctorate, her husband’s health began to decline, and she reluctantly decided to forego pursuing her PhD.  In her spare time, she was an avid reader who kept herself current.  Some of her favorite publications were The New Yorker, Vogue, and Architectural Digest and also a selection of religious reading and daily meditations.

As all who knew her agreed, Marion had exquisite taste, and she generously shared and imparted that to others.  She loved beauty, which she naturally expressed in her elegant personal style in her home, in her bearing, and in her deportment.  Even in her late 90’s, she was, at all times, a chic and fashionable lady, who enjoyed dressing for every occasion.

Marion’s gifts were many, and she shared them with us all.  We will miss her, as we cherish her spirit.  Thank you, Marion.  God bless you.

The family would like to thank Amedisys Home Health Services and Tockwotton on the Waterfront for the excellent care and services which they provided to her.
