Obituary for Jeannine G. Picard
Jeannine G. (Lavigne) Picard, 79, passed away peacefully after a long illness on August 16 at her home in Barrington.   Married for 58 years to the late Paul D. Picard, she was a Cumberland resident for 43 years.
She leaves her four daughters:  Paula Picard (Chip Truwit) of Wayzata MN, Suzanne McDonough (Paul) of Hinckley OH, Jacqueline Harmon (Michael) of Springfield IL, and Jan Cooney (Buckley) of Rehoboth, MA.; 9 grandchildren:  Peter and Christina Truwit, Kevin and Lauren McDonough, Matthew and Drew Harmon and Nicholas, Samuel and Elizabeth Cooney and a sister, Lucille Provencher of Victoriaville, Canada.  She was the mother of the late Peter Picard who died in 1981 and sister of the late Ray Lavigne of Westchester, NY.
Born in Providence in 1934, she grew up in West Warwick and was married in 1955 to Paul when he was serving in the U.S. Navy.  After putting her husband through Bryant College, she was a mother and housewife for many years. Though she worked as a Claims Manager at Blue Cross and Blue Shield for 12 years, retiring in 2000, she liked to say that her “biggest and best job was raising her 5 children.”
Jeanne always placed caring for her family first, and was an active member of St. John Vianney Church in Cumberland.  She was infinitely proud of her children, their spouses, and her grandchildren and loved to share stories of their accomplishments.  Up to the end of her life, her greatest joy was making the people around her happy.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, at 10am in St. Margaret’s Church, 1098 Pawtucket Ave., Rumford.  Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, West Warwick. Calling hours Thursday 5-7 pm at Monahan Drabble Sherman Funeral Home 230 Waterman St. Providence.  Donations in her memory may be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network 1500 Rosecrans Ave. Suite 200 Manhattan Beach, CA 90286.
