Obituary for Jean E. Davis
Jean (Emmott) Davis, 90 passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family and friends on Monday, March 21, 2011. Jean was born September 24, 1920 to the late Russell H. and Muriel Kent Emmott and grew up with her sister Marie in Woonsocket and Meadow Shores, South Dartmouth.
After attending Wheeler School and Garland Finishing School, she married Earl Russell Davis, Jr. and moved to Barrington where she lived for 64 years, 52 of those years on the property known as "Bluemead" which has been in the Davis family for 118 years. She was pre deceased by her husband of 35 years, son Kent Van Santvoort Davis and sister Marie Tessmer.
Jean leaves behind her daughter, Leigh Clemmey of Barrington, son Eban E. Davis of East Providence and son, Russell Davis III and his wife Nancy of Seekonk, MA. Jean, or "Nan" as she was most often called is survived by six
grandchildren: Dimity Sharp of Rehoboth, Rindy Dominguez and husband Michael of Barrington, Jessica Davis and husband Jay Simpson of New York, Rebecca Davis and husband Bernard Daly of New York, E. Russell Davis IV and his wife Erin of California and Holly Davis D'Abate and Husband Kevin of Florida; eight great grandchildren J.D. and Alex Sharp, Christian and Sienna Dominguez, Kent and Tia D'Abate, Wyatt Edmond Simpson and Isla Jean Daly, a nephew William
Tessmer, a daughter in law Beth Beaver Davis and a very dear friend and companion, Donald Read.
Jean was a longstanding member of the SPCA  Board of Directors, Rhode Island Country Club, Barrington Women’s Club, English Speaking Union and former member of the Barrington Yacht Club and Barrington Garden Club.
Jean will be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor and generosity to all who knew her and will be greatly missed
There will be a private internment at Swan Point Cemetery. A memorial service will take place of Friday April 1, 2011 at 2pm in St John's Episcopal Church in Barrington  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in  Jean's memory to the Rhode Island SPCA.
