Obituary for Irene B. Bellenoit
Irene Berthe Bellenoit was born on August 8, 1938 in Fall River, Massachusetts. She died on May 11, 2018 in North Providence, Rhode Island. Irene, the youngest of eleven children, was born to Eglantine (Jarry) and Pierre Levasseur. Her living siblings are George, Lucille, and Jeanette. She loved all her nieces and nephews many of whom called her “ma tante”. She enjoyed 39 years of marriage to her beloved husband Maurice, “Mikey”, with whom she had four children: Paula, Philip, Elaine, and Marc. She adored her two grandchildren Gamma Ray and Dylan.

For much of her life, Irene worked as a secretary in the medical field, the Rhode Island Department of Corrections, and the Department of Education. She was affectionately known as “The Spreadsheet Queen” or simply “Irene the Queen.”

Irene earned an Associates Degree from the Community College of Rhode Island. She continued her education at Providence College where she proudly sang in the women’s choir. Some of her academic interests were criminology and religious studies.

Irene was a devout Roman Catholic with great admiration for St. Therese, The Little Flower. She will surely be remembered for putting the needs of others above her own. She delighted in serving as eucharistic minister at her parish, Saints John and James in West Warwick. She absolutely loved singing in the choir. She was primarily an alto, less frequently a soprano, and even admitted needing to “carry the tenors” occasionally.

Not only did Irene know religious music, she continuously amazed people with a large anthology of popular music. She could recall a song spontaneously that would fit almost any conversation. This was probably a side effect of her passion for musicals.

Bird watching was one of her favorite hobbies. She could often be seen patching up a old bird feeder well past it’s time. She also enjoyed exercise and spent many hours doing laps in the pool at the local Y.

Probably most of all, she will be remembered as being a loving mother and grandmother. “I loved every bit of it,” she was remembered saying, “even with 3 in diapers at once, I never minded taking care of my kids.” She will be missed dearly and remembered always with great love.

A funeral mass will be held at Saints John and James Parish in West Warwick, RI on Friday, August 17 at 11:00. Donations in Irene’s memory can be sent to “Hopkins Manor Activity Fund” at 610 Smithfield Rd., North Providence.
