East Providence: H. Marie P. Close , after a long and productive life at 95, died on 9/18/14 at Orchard View Manor in East Providence. Marie was born in Bridgeport, CT and moved to RI in 1951 where she lived until her death.
Marie became a school teacher after graduating from Western Connecticut State College. She taught elementary school in Newtown, Ct., and East Providence and had a profound love of learning.
Marie earned her MA in Education at Northeastern University.
She was active in East Providence Library, attended Hope Congregational Church, Brown University Community for Learning in Retirement, and was an incorporator of the East Providence Teachers Credit Union.
She was married to Everett R. Close, Fr., who predeceased her in 1976.
She leaves 3 daughters: Lucinda Holden of Riverside, Carolyn Hallin of Worcester, and Virginia Bacon and her husband Lyle, in Portola Valley, CA. She has 2 grand children, Jonathan Holden and Jennifer Hallin, 4 great-grandchildren and 2 great- great-grandchildren.
To honor her memory, consider giving a book to a child or volunteering a few hours at your local library. She requested that no services be held and will be interred in Swan Pont Cemetery in Providence.
