Obituary for Esther Metcalf Mauran
Providence: Esther Elise Metcalf Mauran, died Sunday October 5th after a long illness. The daughter of the late George Pierce Metcalf and Pauline Cabot Metcalf, she is survived by her husband Frank Mauran, her son Frank Mauran IV, five grandchildren: Marion, Cecily and John Mauran, Georgina Blackwell O’Sullivan and Richard Blackwell. She also leaves a sister: Pauline C. Metcalf. She was pre deceased by her daughter: Eliza Blackwell and her brother Michael Metcalf.
A graduate of Sarah Lawrence College in 1953 and the Foxcroft School, she had also attended the Wheeler School in Providence.
Her most longstanding involvement was with the Rhode Island School of Design from whom she received an honorary degree. She played an active role as a docent and as chairman of the Fine Arts Committee. She was a member of the Providence Art Club, the Dunes Club and the Cosmopolitan Club in New York.
Services will be held on Saturday October 11th at 11am in Grace Church, Providence. Donations in her memory may be made to the Museum of the Rhode Island School of Design.
