Obituary for Eleanore A. Martinkus
Eleanore A. Martinkus of Providence died October 25 at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence after a valiant two-year battle with cancer. Â She was the loving wife of Algirdas P. Martinkus for 46 years.
Born in Providence, a daughter of the late Lawrence Francis and Mary Catherine (Sullivan) Geary, she was a Providence resident her entire life.
A 1946 graduate of St. Mary’s Academy - Bay View, and the Katherine Gibbs School, she worked as a bookkeeper for Providence Wholesale Drug Co. and later at DePasquale Pharmacy on Broadway in Providence until her retirement.
A long-time and faithful communicant of St. Raymond’s Church in Providence, she also served the congregation there as an Extraordinary Eucharistic minister.
An avid Red Sox fan her entire life, she enjoyed gathering with family members to watch her favorite teams including the New England Patriots in playoff action.
Besides her husband she leaves a daughter, Nancy Walker, and her husband John, and her grandchildren, Stephanie and Kimberly Walker, as well as 20 nieces and nephews. Â She was the mother of the late Harry Martinkus and sister of the late Joseph, Raymond and Francis Geary, Rita Mauro, Mary Mauro and Margaret McLaughlin.
The funeral will be held on Monday at 9 a.m. from the Monahan, Drabble Sherman Funeral Home at 230 Waterman St. in Providence, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St Raymond’s Church, 1240 North Main St., Providence. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, Oct. 27, from 5 to 7 p.m.
