Obituary for Edith E. Chisholm
Edith E. Chisholm, 94, died Tuesday, September 12, 2017 in her home at Laurelmead, Blackstone Blvd in Providence, RI. Peggy, as she was commonly known, previously resided in Greenwich, CT with her late husband William H. Chisholm.
Born in Poughkeepsie, NY, she was the youngest of 4 children of the late John and Alice (Atherton) Griffiths. Peggy graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1945 and received an MBA from The Wharton School of Business in 1947. Her professional career spanned 50 years and included Executive Admin positions in such companies as Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, Minute Maid Frozen Foods, Oxford Paper Company, the University of Rochester and Mastercard.
At the age of 72, she married William H. Chisholm (Bill), leaving Manhattan for Greenwich. After his death, she moved to Laurelmead, also the home of her late brother Fredrick R. Griffiths, where she was active in social groups and served on several committees.
Peggy is survived by cousin Lauren Bedell, step-daughters Margo Chisholm, Barbara Young, and step-granddaughter Meg Young.
A memorial service will be held Friday, October 13 in St Martin’s Episcopal Church, Orchard Street, Providence, RI. at 11am, A committal service will be held on Saturday October 14 at Evergreen Cemetery in Portland, ME at 11:00. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to Laurelmead’s Employee’s Education Fund (LEEF) 355 Blackstone Blvd, Providence RI 02906.
