“I heard a bird sing in the dark of December….a magical thing and sweet to remember.” Doris (Reynolds) Saccone passed away at age 85 in Providence, RI. For the past 2 years, Doris lived at Wingate (Epoch) on the Eastside where she received compassionate care for which her family is very grateful. Raised in Shelton, Connecticut, she was a daughter of Terrence and Barbara (Russon) Reynolds. She moved to Providence, Rhode Island 22 years ago to be an integral part of raising her 3 grandsons. She was the wife of the late Anthony J. Saccone, Sr., and raised her family in Seymour, Connecticut, where she was also deeply involved in nurturing her granddaughter.
Doris was a creative and gentle person who embraced the good in others. People couldn’t help falling in love with her. She was passionate about traditions that brought people together – and so she wholeheartedly “converted to Italian” after she was married, and then with equal conviction helped to raise her Jewish grandsons. She is survived by her sister, Terry Perschel, as well as her loving children, Tony Saccone (Susan Dickstein) and Laura Saccone. She is also survived by her four grandchildren, Valerie Bashura Riesbeck (Paul), and Max, Alex, and Ben Saccone. Doris will be deeply missed by her “traveling sisters,” Elaine Dickstein and Lois Laikin, as well as her “cocktail party ladies” at Wingate. Doris felt fortunate to be cared for so well by “Sharon’s people” and Beacon Hospice during her last months when she needed more care; her family is deeply grateful for their loving attention.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, December 21, at 11am at Swan Point Cemetery Chapel, 585 Blackstone Boulevard, Providence RI. In lieu of flowers, please consider others with a donation to an organization of your choosing.
