Obituary for Marion J. Scanlon
East Providence. Marion J. Scanlon, 92, a long time East Providence resident died Wednesday in the Grand Islander Center in Middletown. She was the wife of late Francis J. Scanlon and daughter of the late Thomas and Marion (Rogers) Kennedy.
She worked as a receptionist for the East Providence Police Department for fifteen years, retiring in 1994. She was an active parishioner of Sacred Heart Church in East Providence for many years.
She leaves two sons Rev. Francis P. Scanlon of St. Ann’s Church, Bronx, NY, and Joseph T. Scanlon and his wife Donna of Riverside; two daughters Marianne Scanlon of East Providence and Patricia Maia and her husband Henrique of Bristol; one brother Edward Kennedy and his wife Lucille of Lakeland, FL; a sister Katherine Geary of Johnston; two grandsons and two great grandsons and many loving nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Helen McDermott.
Funeral will be held Saturday at 9 am from the Monahan Drabble and Sherman Funeral Home. 230 Waterman St, Providence with a Mass of Christian Burial in Sacred Heart Church, Taunton Ave, East Providence at 10 am. Burial will be in Gate of Heavens Cemetery. Calling hours Friday 3-8 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Ann’s Church 3519 Bainbridge Ave, Bronx, NY 10467.
