Obituary for Mary Frye
Mary J. Frye, 87 of Rumford, passed away at Orchard View Manor as she lived, gracefully and humbly after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. She was the wife of the late John A. Frye.

Born in Providence, Mary was the daughter of the late Frederick and Mary (Cavey) Dailey. A graduate of St.Xavier Academy where she was an outstanding student and captain of the basketball team, Mary was a life-long learner whose insatiable quest for knowledge led her to enroll in an eclectic variety of college courses until she was well into her seventies.

She was an avid golfer, sailor and world traveler.  For many years, Mary enjoyed annual trips to visit a late friend whose job at the United Nations took her developing countries. Her love of travel began when she was a young woman who took an ocean liner to Europe where she enjoyed an audience with the Pope. Mary was a lover of the arts and literature and possessed a beautiful grasp of the English language; she was gracious and articulate with a quick wit and generous and loving demeanor. Mary worked for the New England Telephone Company and was active in the Telephone Pioneers charitable organization, serving two terms as President. She was also a member of the Rhode Island Short Story Club where she loved to commiserate with other writers and poets.

A distinguished woman who was loved by all knew her, Mary was the sister of the late Aileen O’Neil and Frederick Dailey. She was the loving mother of Maya Colantuono and her husband Steven and devoted grandmother to Tori, Hera, Elliott and Sophie. She is also survived by her beloved nephews and niece, several dear cousins and many great- nephews and nieces.

Mary’s beautiful soul and strong spiritual foundation continued to shine through as her disease progressed. She remained curious and playful, yet ladylike and dignified until her dying day. We would like to offer our sincerest gratitude to the committed and compassionate staff at Orchard View Manor who cared for her for the past seven years.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday at 10am in St. Margaret’s Church, Pawtucket Ave., Rumford. Burial will be private. Calling hours Thursday 5-7pm in the Monahan Drabble Sherman Funeral Home 230 Waterman St., Providence. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Patient Activity Fund, Orchard View Manor, 135 Tripps Lane, East providence, R.I. 02915.
