Obituary for Paul D. Picard
Paul D. Picard, 79, of Cumberland, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 21, 2013 with his loving wife, Jeannine (Lavigne) Picard by his side. A son of the late Paul and Colombe Picard, he was a Cumberland resident for 43 years.
Besides his wife he leaves his daughters: Paula (Chip Truwit), Suzanne McDonough (Paul), Jacqueline Harmon (Michael) and Jan Cooney (Buckley); 9 grandchildren: Peter and Christina Truwit, Kevin and Lauren McDonough, Matthew and Drew Harmon and Nick, Sam and Lizzie Cooney and 2 brothers: Donald and Richard Picard. He was the father of the late Peter Picard who died in 1981 and brother of the late Roger and Philip Picard and Louise DiIorio.
A 1951 graduate of LaSalle Academy, he served in the United States Navy from 1952 – 1960. After graduating from Bryant College, he was comptroller for companies including Melville Corporation (CVS) , Metalized Ceramics Corporation and PIDC.
Paul was infinitely proud of his children, their spouses and grandchildren, and loved to share stories of their accomplishments. His hobbies included sailing, fishing and skiing, which he enjoyed with his family. He had a ready compliment for all and his charming ways earned many smiles.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday at 10am in St Margaret’s Church, 1098 Pawtucket Ave., Rumford. Burial will be in St Joseph Cemetery, West Warwick. Calling hours Monday 4-7pm in the Monahan Drabble Sherman Funeral Home 230 Waterman St., Providence. Donations in his memory may be made to Home & Hospice Care of RI, 1085 North Main St., Providence, RI 02904.
