Obituary for Ada R. Mogayzel
Ada Mogayzel, 92, of Edgewater, MD died July 24th at her home. She was the wife of Dr. Peter J. Mogayzel.  Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Domizio and Angela (DeLisi) Sciotti. Ada was raised in Barrington and lived in Providence for 50 years before moving to Edgewater, Maryland, two years ago to be closer to her son and his family.
Ada worked at the Walsh-Kaiser Shipyards during WWII, and in her father’s jewelry factory. She then was a librarian at Central High School in Providence, before moving on to the John Hay Library at Brown University. She left Brown to join the United States Foreign Service and was posted in Sweden.
Ada and Peter J Mogayzel were married for 52 years. She was a devoted wife, mother and daughter. She adored her nieces, nephews, and extended family. While taking care of her family, she pursued her twin passions of preserving history and ensuring the future through education and suicide prevention.
Ada went back to school and graduated from the University Of Rhode Island with a degree in history, when adult learners were a novelty. She loved architecture. She restored and built houses on Providence’s East Side. The first house that she and her husband built has been designated a historic house by the Providence Preservation Society. She loved auctions and collected furniture and Imari porcelain.
Ada worked tirelessly for her community establishing many scholarships, book funds and an endowed fund for suicide prevention. She served on the Board of Trustees of Roger Williams College and the Samaritans. She was actively involved with the Woman’s Auxiliary at Butler Hospital, Volunteers in Providence Schools, the Rhode Island Historical Society, and the Providence Preservation Society.
Ada enjoyed her friends, family and a zest for living. She traveled extensively her entire life, and especially loved Venice. Arriving at Ada’s doorstep was a cause for celebration, regardless of who you were. Friends, family, and lost RISD and Brown students always found food, fun, and love.
Besides her husband she leaves her son, Dr. Peter J. Mogayzel, Jr. and his wife, Dr. Cyndra Mogayzel and her granddaughter Elizabeth Ada Mogayzel of Annapolis, Maryland.
