Obituary for Herbert A. Walker
Herbert Arnold Walker, 84, beloved husband of the late Arlene (Hopkins) Walker, entered into eternal life on October 19, 2013.

Born on July 27, 1929 in Coventry, son of the late Stephen and Ethel (Fink) Walker, Mr. Walker was a career employee of the Providence Gas Company and also worked as a Master Carpenter well into his late 70’s.

He was twice blessed a father, with his daughter Herlene and his son Brian.  Mr. Walker also leaves daughter-in-law Brenda Walker and five grandchildren: Joshua and Wade Brashers, both of Pennsylvania, Patrick, Timothy and Hannah Walker of North Kingstown, RI.  He is also survived by his sister Emma Wood of Missouri.  He was brother to the late Pearl Maynard, Kenneth, Raymond, and Stanley Walker.

Herbert had many accomplishments throughout his lifetime. He was a Past-Master of Warwick Lodge #16 F&AM. After the Warwick Lodge disbanded, he then joined Manchester Lodge #12 F&AM, where he recently received his Fifty Year Membership Award.  He was a member of The Schriners, The Scottish Rites, and was an active founding Member of Shepherd of the Valley United Methodist Church.   Relentlessly pursuing history’s truths, Herbert was also a member of the Coventry & Hope Historical Societies, Trustee with Nathaniel Greene Homestead, Pawtuxet Valley Old Timers Club, RI Postal History Club, and the RI Philatelic Club where he avidly revived history through collecting stamps.

Mr. Walker enjoyed many years of camping with The Masonic Camping Club and was well known for his love of cooking, especially his own secret recipe for clam chowder.  Herbie’s talent and lifelong passion for singing gave so many the gift of his voice that brought much happiness at the numerous events he sang at.

Mr. Walker generously gifted to humanity by donating his body to The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University.  A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be at 12:00 noon on Saturday, November 9, 2013, Shepherd of the Valley United Methodist Church, 604 Seven Mile Road, Hope, RI.

Contributions/donations in Herbert’s memory can be sent to Manchester Lodge #12 F&AM Scholarship Fund, 585 Washington St, Coventry RI 02816
