Obituary for Mildred May Graseck
Graseck, Mildred M. (Porter), 91, of Providence, Rhode Island died on Sunday August 24, 2014. She was born in 1923 in Brooklyn, New York to the late Charles Porter and Ethel (Parsons) Porter. She was predeceased by her husband Robert A. Graseck and is survived by her sons Stephen and his wife Laura Sorensen of Southington, Connecticut and Paul and his wife Susan of Pawtucket, Rhode Island, five grandchildren Abigail, Rebecca, Anna, Elise and Nora, and five great-grandchildren Juna, Oscar, Elora, Owen and Lilith. 
Millie graduated from Erasmus Hall and attended Hunter College. She has lived in Brooklyn and Staten Island NY, Waldwick and Ridgewood NJ, Vanderbilt Beach FL, Southington CT, and most recently Providence RI, making many lifelong friends wherever she went. Her inquisitive nature and boundless energy led her to travel extensively, visiting every continent except Antarctica. 
During her 20 years in Southington, Millie belonged to the Women's Club, reading countless student essays for the Scholarship Committee. She led exercise classes at Calendar House and taught many people to play bridge. She continued to be an avid bridge player right up until her death. Millie was also a talented quilter, making intricate hand-stitched quilts for her children and grandchildren. 
Over the years, Millie belonged to the Reformed Church in America, Presbyterian, and Congregational churches. She sang in their choirs and directed the Junior Choir in Staten Island. She was committed to peace and social justice and participated in the Seeds of Hope group at First Congregational Church of Southington. 
A Memorial Service will be held on October 25th at 11am in Central Congregational Church, 296 Angell St., Providence, Rhode Island.
