Obituary for Kathryn Perkins
Kathryn Sylvester Perkins, 93, died peacefully at home on Sept. 3rd. Loving wife to the late Whitney Perkins, she is survived by her children Rebecca, Mig, Wesley and Rachel, foster daughter Jodi Tourgee, and grandchildren Katie Sedat and William and Tristram Hogben.

For over 20 years as a teacher and guidance counselor at Hope High School, Kathy Perkins was a passionate advocate for her students as they struggled to find their way towards adulthood. She was a staunch Democrat, a Teachers’ Union representative, and a supporter of the ACLU and the Camp Street Community Ministries. She served with Common Cause, and was active with the Unitarian Women’s Alliance.

Kathryn never learned to drive. Most mornings she would walk to work with Whitney taking two steps to his one. In retirement they walked through cities all over the world, and in her widowed years Kathy could be seen walking through the familiar neighborhood with a son or daughter and successive grand dogs.  Â

The Perkins family will host an open house in Remembrance and Celebration of her life on Sunday October 5 from 2-5 pm at the family home,11 Catalpa Rd, Providence. Donations in her memory may be made to the Camp St. Community Ministries, 190 Camp St., Providence, RI 02906.
