Obituary for Stanley Livingston
Stanley Livingston, Jr., 96, of Bristol died on January 1, 2015. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Martha Nicholson Livingston and his children Ted and Karen Livingston, Magrieta and Sherwood Willard, Mary and David Bush-Brown, Stanley Livingston and Anne Hughes, John and Nan Livingston, seventeen surviving  grand children and sixteen great grand children. He was born in Hawaii, the fifth of five children.Â
Stanley graduated from the Punahou School in Honolulu in 1935 and from Yale University in 1940. He was a member of the Aurelian Honor Society and St Elmo's where he made many life long friends. He then enlisted in the the US Navy where he served in the Pacific and Atlantic theaters during World War II and received a Silver Star. After the war he worked at Nicholson File Company for many years and served as Vice President of Operations.Â
His passion was sailing. As a life long sailor, Stanley and his wife Martha cruised extensively on both the western and eastern coasts of the Atlantic, He sailed and raced across the Atlantic five times of which four passages were on his own boats.  He was the past Commodore of the Cruising Club of America, member of the New York Yacht Club and several yacht clubs around the world.
He was a dedicated contributor to the community. He was President of the Board of Women's and Infants Hospital and was a trustee of Citizens Savings Bank. He was an active supporter of many organizations including Mystic Seaport, RI Foundation, The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute, and the Herreshoff Marine Museum among others.Â
There will be a service in his honor at Central Congregational Church Angell St. in Providence at 11 am on Monday January 5.
In lieu of flowers, donations should be directed to the Women's and Infants Hospital, the Herreshoff Marine Museum or one’s charity of choice.
