Obituary for Helen Scotte Gordon
Helen Scotte Gordon, 58 of Providence, passed away on October 9, 2015. She was raised in Glastonbury CT, the daughter of the late Jack M. Gordon and Frances E. Hayde Gordon. Named for her paternal grandparents, Helen and Scott Gordon, Helen chose to be called “Scotte” both personally and professionally throughout her career. Scotte served as the Director of College Counseling for 28 years at the Moses Brown School. She felt it was an honor to be part of the Moses Brown Community and loved working closely with students, parents, faculty and staff. Scotte had previously worked in admissions at Trinity College (Hartford, CT) and Wheaton College (Norton, MA). She graduated from Trinity College with a baccalaureate degree in American Studies and from Brown University with a Master of Arts in Teaching – English. As a gifted writer, Scotte created vibrant letters of support to accompany college applications for her advisees. She also exhibited her flair for writing in numerous “thank you” notes and greeting cards crafted for her many friends. She was known for her exceptional pie crust in the style of her Grandmother Hayde and cake made from scratch. Scotte enjoyed tennis, biking, hiking, swimming and her long walks on the East Side. She had a generous personality and was blessed with numerous friends, whom she adored. Scotte leaves behind her husband of 30 years, Peter N. Woodberry, Ph.D., her daughter Hannah Gordon Woodberry and her son Graham Hayde Woodberry. She was predeceased by her brother Jack Gordon. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday October 17th at 10am at Central Congregational Church, 296 Angell Street in Providence. Flowers are respectfully omitted. Gifts may be made to Moses Brown School, 250 Lloyd Avenue, Providence, 02906 to establish a scholarship in Scotte’s memory.
