Obituary for Stephen Johnson
Stephen Johnson, 56, of Warwick passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 19th surrounded by loved ones.  His strength and courage shined more than ever during the past two years as he overcame many hardships fighting illness.  Despite the challenging times, Steve’s positivity and wit never faltered.  A line that was passed down from his grandfather that he always carried with him was, “The only thing you can control in life is your attitude.” His humble and happy spirit remained until his final moments when God called him home.

Steve, also known as “Daddo”, was the devoted, loving, and unconditionally supportive father of Sarah, 28, and Victoria Johnson, 24.  He was also the loving grandfather of his two favorite granddogs, Ella and Penny.  Steve could always be found wearing Syracuse gear, Sarah’s alma mater, completing projects with Sarah and spending quality time with his roommate, Victoria.  He was exceptionally proud of his daughters’ educational achievements.  He was always there to fix any problem and patiently give advice.

He is also survived by his father and mother, Arnold and Nancy (Olson) Johnson, his older sister, Marcia Eckloff, and his younger brother, Andrew Johnson. He also leaves behind nieces, nephews, and many close friends.  Steve’s selflessness, sense of humor, and laidback charm impacted his family and friends.

Steve was the Regional District Manager for West Marine for over two decades where he became close with many of his colleagues.  His biggest passion in life was boating.  He could be found on the water or working his boat, the SAVI, year round.  Steve was a member of Quonset-Davisville Navy Yacht Club and served as the Dockmaster for the club.  His happiest times were spent during the summer cruising, fishing, and relaxing on the ocean with his daughters, his “adopted” daughter Lauren Hauser, 28, and his soon-to-be son-in-law and apprentice, Jared Rossi, 28.

Steve will be deeply missed and as he believed, “We only part to meet again.” A Memorial Gathering will be open to the public and held Sunday, November 22nd at 1pm in the Monahan Drabble & Sherman Funeral Home, 230 Waterman Street, Providence.  Donations can be made to Home & Hospice of Rhode Island.
