Lucia "Lucy" Avella, 88, passed away peacefully Sunday, December 20, 2015 surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Providence, RI, she was the daughter of the late Salvatore and Maria (Valenti) Palumbo. She was the beloved wife for 63 years of the late Joseph Avella.
Lucy had been employed as a teacher’s assistant for 13 years for the Johnston School Department upon retirement.  She also worked as a clerk for the town of Johnston and was a recent  member of the West Warwick Senior Center.
Lucy was the devoted mother of Serafino Avella, Christine Petisce and her husband Vincent and Joseph Avella Jr. She was the dear sister of Stella Marzullo and Salvatore Palumbo and his wife Regina, and the late Vincent, John and Joseph Palumbo, Connie Marzullo and Clara Spina. She was the cherished grandmother of 6 grandchildren and 3 great children.
A Memorial Mass will be held in her honor on Wednesday, December 30th @ 10AM at Saint Francis De Sales Church, 381 School Street, NK RI. Donations may be made in her honor to the West Warwick Senior Center, 145 Washington St. West Warwick RI 02903.
