Obituary for Hans Martin Fuchs
Hans Martin Fuchs, 73, died unexpectedly December 24, 2015 after falling in his Providence, RI home. He was surrounded by family and at peace when he passed.
Martin was born in Heidelberg, Germany in 1942 to Professor Walther Peter Fuchs and Marianne Fuchs (Kraemer). After earning an MD/PhD from the University of Heidelberg in 1967/68, he followed his beloved Ina to the United States. He completed a residency in Internal Medicine and Fellowship in Gastroenterology at Norwalk Hospital (Connecticut) in 1976, and practiced there until retiring in 2008.
A “gentleman of the old school”, Martin cared deeply for his patients, treating not only illnesses but the entire patient and family with extraordinary integrity, kindness, and compassion. He found great joy in music, religion, literature, cooking, and - most of all - his family.
He is survived by his wife Ina (Taeger), sons Tom (wife Helen), Peter (wife Christine), Andrew (wife Stacie) and his daughter Karin. He also leaves six beloved grandchildren, a sister Dorothea Quitmann, brother Ulrich and many nieces and nephews.
Services are at Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Warwick, RI at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 23; burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to www.theizzyfoundation.org.
