Obituary for Marjory Day
Marjory Day, 92, passed away peacefully on April 10, 2016 in East Providence.  Born November 19, 1923 in Providence to Winfield Scott Solomon and Susan Kenyon Solomon, Marjory was a long time resident of Rhode Island, but also a world traveler.  She received a Bachelor’s degree in Literary Interpretation from Emerson College in 1947 and a Master’s degree in Counseling from the University of Rhode Island in 1971.
She married Robert S. Day, a graduate of West Point in 1944.  Their army career included stops in Colorado, Maryland, California, and over 15 years at West Point.  After the Army, they moved to Portsmouth, RI in 1968 where she worked as a speech therapist, counselor, and special education teacher. After retiring, she travelled extensively in Europe and frequently wintered in Marrakesh, Morocco.
Marjory’s life was one of service and activism. She was a volunteer in many service organizations and a political activist.  Her perpetual optimism and joy for life were two of her key traits that infected everyone around her and will be dearly missed.
She is survived by her son J. William Day and wife Susan of Greenwich, CT; her son Robert S. Day, Jr. and wife Joan of Torrance, CA; and five grandchildren, Emily Day, Laura Day, Gregory Day, Andrew Day and Katharine Day.
On Sunday, April 24th, at St. Martin’s Church in Providence, RI, the Eucharistic Intention during the 9:30am service will be one of Thanksgiving for the life of Marjory Day. All are welcome.
Memorial services will be scheduled at the West Point Post Chapel and she will be interred in the West Point Cemetery.
