Obituary for Vincent M. Haight USN (Ret)
Vincent M. Haight, USN (Ret), 57, of Coventry, formerly of Warwick, died Sept. 13 surrounded by his family. He was the loving father of Nicholas A. Haight and the late Benjamin A. Haight. Born in Denver, CO, he was the son of Jerry and Phyllis (Lotz) Haight, of Montrose, CO as well as the brother of William Haight of Spokane, WA.and the late Roberta Haight

He was a substitute teacher in West Warwick Elementary schools. He served his country for 25 years in the US Naval Submarine Service, retiring at the rank of Senior Chief. He was one of the few sailors who was qualified both in the submarine service and the surface warfare service (SS/SW). He was among the commissioning crew of the USS Jimmy Carter. He served in both Operation Desert Storm and Operation Desert Fox. He was awarded the Navy Achievement Medal, one of the highest non-combat medals.
Besides his family, he loved fishing, teaching, his students and singing in the Chorus of Kent County and the St. Mark’s Church choir. He was a coach in both the West Side and Warwick National Little League. He was a Cub Master for Pack 1 Gaspee and active with Boy Scout Troop 1 Warwick.

Relatives and friends are invited to his funeral and celebration of his life at St. Mark’s Church, 111 West Shore Rd., Warwick, on Oct. 5th at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Tomorrow Fund, 593 Eddy St., Providence, RI 02903 or St. Mark’s Building Fund, 111 West Shore Rd., Warwick, RI 02889.
