Obituary for Molly

Mary Hubbard Clark (Molly) passed away of natural causes in her Providence, Rhode Island home on July 17, 2024, at the age of 74.

Molly was born on October 23, 1949, in Washington, D.C. to David Sanders Clark and Mary Hubbard Livingstone. After graduating from Sidwell Friends School in 1967, she went on to study at Stanford University. After graduating from Stanford University in 1971, she went to work for the American Lung Association (ALA) in Washington, D.C. She worked for the ALA in Washington, D.C. for many years, and then moved to Boston, MA where she attended Boston University and obtained a Master of Public Health in 1988. She then moved to Rhode Island and worked for the American Lung Association as the Environmental and Public Policy Manager from 1988-2012.

Molly had a career of over 30 years dedicated to the Mission of the American Lung Association. She helped push through the Workplace Smokefree bill making RI the 7th state to provide smokefree worksites, public places and restaurants. She was acknowledged as a wealth of information for the legislators over the years. She worked on Clean Air bills. She became a Smoking Cessation Facilitator running cessation Programs for the public and businesses in RI.

After retiring in 2012 from the ALA, she continued as a public policy volunteer for ALA at the State House. She volunteered at “Paws Watch” (a cat rescue) and adopted several cats in medical need. She also was passionate about Reading Literacy and volunteered at “Books Are Wings” whose mission was collecting books so that every child could have free books.

Molly had a great sense of humor, was an Encyclopedia of knowledge and a good friend to so many. She always helped others, but rarely asked for help. She is fondly remembered by her many cousins who enjoyed spending time with her whenever she came to visit them. She will be missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her two brothers: David Livingstone Clark of Washington, D.C. and Jonathan Sanders Clark (Barbara) of Germantown, Maryland; her two nieces: Teresa Livingstone Clark of Washington, D.C. and Laura Sanders Clark (Karl) of Germantown, Maryland, and her two nephews: Jonathan Rand Clark (Nina) of Monrovia, Maryland and Robert Luce Clark (Jill) of Charlottesville, Virginia and numerous grand nieces and nephews.

Donations in memory of Mary may be sent to the American Lung Association, PO Box 756, Osceola, WI 54020-0756 or the "Books Are Wings" and/or "Paws Watch", PO Box 3771, Seattle, WA 98124-3771.
