Obituary for William J. Quist, Sr.
William J. Quist Sr. , 74, of West Yarmouth, MA, and formerly of Narragansett, passed away Thursday, May 24, 2018 at Cape Cod Hospital.

Born December 21, 1943 in Holden, MA, he was the son of the late Andrew and Grace Clouart Quist.

Bill graduated from West Boylston Jr./Senior High School and later attended UMASS Amherst studying Agriculture. He then joined the U.S. Navy and was extremely proud to be a Vietnam Era Veteran. He served aboard the USS Joseph K. Taussig, (DE-1030) taking a goodwill cruise to nine African and three Mediterranean ports. Bill was employed by BOC where he sold industrial gases throughout New England before retiring. He was eager to hear about his grandchildren’s accomplishments and nothing made him more proud to be a “Pockey”, as they affectionately called him. Bill or otherwise known as “Quisty” adored his close-knit group of loyal friends and they were a true band of brothers to him. One of his favorite things to do was to relax on the shores of Narragansett Beach. Bill was also quite a conversationalist and enjoyed talking to people just about everywhere he went. He was also a sports enthusiast and he loved watching and playing golf. A few of his favorite teams were the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots.

He is survived by his daughter, Andrea Pirolli and husband Michael of Lebanon, CT; his son, William J. Quist, Jr. of Groton, CT; his grandchildren, Giana, Sophia and Vincent Pirolli; his two siblings, Frances Lavin of West Yarmouth, MA and Richard Quist of North Ft. Myers, FL; his stepchildren, Russ Brown, Michael Brown, Holly Lewis, all of CT and their children, Mia, Charlotte, Lily Grace, Jason and Mya.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Fredrick and Kenneth Quist.

Bill donated his body to science at Brown University and his burial at the Veterans Cemetery will be private at a later date.

Donations in his memory may be made to Home Base, Veteran and Family Care, online at Homebase.org or by mail at Home Base, MGH Development Office, 125 Nashua Street, Ste. 540, Boston, MA 02114

A special thank you to his sister Frances Lavin who was his caretaker and made him most comfortable in his final days.
