Obituary for Celia Treadway Gow Calabresi
Celia Treadway Gow Calabresi died at the age of 85 at 4:30am on May 10th at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, Rhode Island. Mrs. Calabresi was the widow of Dr. Paul Calabresi who was Chairman of the Department of Internal Medicine at Brown University Medical School for twenty years.

Mrs. Calabresi was born and grew up in New Haven, CT, and she was a graduate of the college at Tufts University where she was elected the President of her class during her senior year. Mrs. Calabresi married her husband on April 3, 1954. She was a practicing Occupational Therapist, and she worked to take care of thalidomide babies in New Haven, CT and of the elderly at Hattie Ida Chaffee.

Mrs. Calabresi was an avid athlete who swam, ran, and bicycled until two months before her death. She was also a painter, and had many dogs and plants, which she liked to nourish. Mrs. Calabresi was a very kind and nurturing person who was involved in the Barrington Garden Club, the Ladies Auxiliary at Roger Williams Hospital, and Vice President of the PTA at Moses Brown School in Providence, RI. She lived at home in Barrington, RI until her final hospitalization.

Mrs. Calabresi raised three children. Her first child, Steven (Mimi), is the Clayton J. & Henry R. Barber Professor of Law at Northwestern University, a Visiting Professor of Law at Yale University, and the co-founder and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Federalist Society. He lives in Providence, RI. Her second child, Janice (Greg), who graduated from the University of Chicago School of Law, previously practiced in the U.S. Department of Justice, and currently lives in Arlington, VA. Her third child, Peter (Katherine), is a Professor of Neurology and is the Director of the Multiple Sclerosis Center at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, MD.

In addition to her children, Mrs. Calabresi is also survived by nine grandchildren, and by her sister, Alice Gow Darius Fekete of Wallingford, CT.

Funeral services will take place at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Barrington, RI on Monday, May 14th 2018 at 10am. Donations in her memory may be made to The American Cancer Society, 931 Jefferson Blvd, #3004, Warwick, RI 02886
