Obituary for Philip Robert Siener, Jr.
Philip Robert Siener Jr., 93 of Greene and Providence, a noted business owner in RI, died on December 24th after a long illness. Born on April 15th, 1924 in Brooklyn, NY and moved with his family at an early age to Providence. He is the son of the late Philip R. Siener and Jane Riddle Siener of Providence.
He graduated from Moses Brown School and Brown University, Class of 1945. He served in the Navy in World War 2 as a Lt.jg. He served on an LCT landing craft during the invasion of Normandy at Omaha beach section Easy Red.
He is predeceased by his wife Virginia Arnold Siener of Greene who he married on Sept. 8, 1951.
He was chairman of Cooley Incorporated, Cooley Group Holdings which operates plants in Pawtucket and Cranston RI and Lancaster, SC. During his long business career, he started or acquired Cidair Structures, Cooley Sign Systems, Cooley Roofing Systems, RISC Co., Cooley Europe Holdings, Orchard Manufacturing Co., Vynex and Cooley Group. He held 4 US patents.
He was President of Agawam Hunt Club, President of RI State Seniors Golf Association. He served on the board of Peoples Savings Bank and Peoples Trust Co., The Industrial Fabrics Association International, The US Industrial Fabrics Institute and Family Service of RI.
He was a member of the Young Presidents Organization, The Dunes Club, The RI Commodores, the Brown Humanities Institute and the Hope Club.
He leaves three children, Elizabeth Siener Bodell of Providence and Greene, Stephen A. Siener of Greene and Hannah H. Siener of Foxboro, MA, 8 grand-children and 1 great grandchild.
There will be a memorial Service at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church, 50 Orchard Avenue in Providence on January 5, 2018 at 10:30 AM.
