Obituary for William J. Anthony
William J. Anthony, 89, passed away peacefully on November 25, 2017 at RI Hospital with his family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Joan Marshall Anthony for 64 years. He was a WWII Coast Guard veteran and went on to a successful career in HVAC sales. An avid sports fan, he especially loved his Yankees. He always put his family first, was a man of great faith, and was happy and jolly right up to his passing. His wonderful smile will be in our hearts forever. God Bless America.
Born in Providence, RI, he was the son of the late William J and Belmira (Oliver) Anthony. He is survived by his 5 loving sons Joseph (Cathy) of Rumford, RI, William (Gretchen) of Rehoboth, MA, Stephen (Norma) of Rumford, RI, Paul (Nancy) of Narragansett, RI and Michael (Danielle Saleeba) of Rumford, RI. He was also the cherished grandfather of 11 and great grandfather of 12. He is also survived by his brother Robert F (Pauline) Anthony of Smithfield, RI and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Barbara (Anthony) Silva.
The funeral will be held Thursday at 9:45am from the Monahan, Drabble & Sherman Funeral Home, 230 Waterman Street, Providence with a Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 984 Taunton Ave., Seekonk at 11am. Burial will be in RI Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, Exeter. Calling hours Wednesday 4-7pm.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution to RI Community Food Bank, 200 Niantic Ave., Providence, RI 02907, rifoodbank.org would be greatly appreciated.
