Obituary for Paul J. Fogerty
Paul J. Fogerty, Capt., USMC, Retired, 80, of Narragansett passed away suddenly at home on June 21, 2022. Born in Providence, a son of John E. and Monica M. (Sullivan) Fogerty. A graduate of Classical High School, Paul attended URI before joining the U. S. Marine Corps and receiving his basic training at Parris Island. He was a member for many years of the Civil Air Patrol where he received his initial training as a pilot; he finished his training and obtained his pilot’s license while in the Marine Corps. A veteran of the Viet Nam conflict, he served two tours of duty overseas as a helicopter and fighter jet pilot and was awarded the Purple Heart for his courage and valor. He was stationed for a period of time at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba and at other Marine bases all over the world, including Japan.
He was a resident of Narragansett for 27 years, previously resided in California, the Carolinas and New Jersey.
He is survived by two sisters, Patricia J. Malley of Wakefield, R.I., Margaret M. King and her husband, Donald, of Dartmouth, Massachusetts, and a sister-in-law, Joan Fogerty of East Greenwich, R.I. He was predeceased by his two brothers, John E. Fogerty, Jr. and William J. Fogerty. He leaves many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Paul was a handsome, kind, intelligent individual who could fix anything from airplane and car engines to clogged pipes and computers. He was very helpful to many members of his family and always lent a helping hand whenever it was asked of him. Raise a glass of robust red wine in his honor, and help a veteran whenever you can.
There will be a Funeral Mass held at St. Mary’s Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church, 866 Point Judith Road, Narragansett, RI 02882 on Friday, July 1st at 11am to which relatives and friends are invited. Burial will follow in Rhode Island Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, Exeter, RI
