Obituary for Meredith E. Partington
Meredith Elizabeth (Newton) Partington, 82 passed away at HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence, RI. She was the beloved wife of the late William Gordon Partington who died February 23, 2020.

Meredith was born in Pawtucket, RI on November 27, 1938 to Elizabeth Forbes (Rodger) Newton and J. Albert Newton, Jr. Meredith was a resident of Rumford for many years before moving to Seekonk in 2001.

Meredith graduated from East Providence High School in 1955 and was active in the youth fellowship at the Rumford Congregational Church. One of Meredith’s greatest joys was being around and nurturing children. In the 1970’s when she discovered a need for a local nursery school, she founded St. Michael’s Nursery School in Rumford. She also volunteered in the East Providence school system working with children with learning disabilities. At that time, she was also a member of the Rumford Junior Women's Club. Later, she worked as the Communications Coordinator for Manisses Communication Group, a Newsletter publishing company based in Providence, RI. She was a member of St. Martin’s Church, also in Providence.

Meredith’s passion was music and the arts. She played the piano for many years, mostly by ear. Almost all of her waking hours, she was surrounded by music. She enjoyed attending live theater and musical performances on Broadway in New York City, at the Providence Performing Arts Center and at the Theatre-By-the-Sea in South Kingstown, Rhode Island.

She is survived by her loving children, Jill Pare (Steven), Jonathan Baker, and Jennifer Baker (Michelle). She is also survived by 5 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Meredith was the sister of Phyllis Ross of Maine and the late Cynthia Christopher of Ohio. She is also survived by her former husband, Fred M. Baker, Jr.

Funeral services will be on Monday, September 20 at 11:00 am at the Historic Chapel in Swan Point Cemetery, 585 Blackstone Blvd, Providence. Calling hours will take place 30 minutes before the service. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice Center and to Alzheimer’s Association.
