Obituary for Sara I. Reichley
Sara Isabel Reichley made her transition on July 4, 2021 at her home in Providence. Throughout her 93 years, she was extraordinarily loving, generous and kind to all.
Sara was born on March 12, 1928, in York, Pennsylvania, and grew up in Jacobus, a small borough on the outskirts of York. She attended York College and had an affinity towards languages; she wanted to be an interpreter at the United Nations. While that wish was never realized, her intelligence and practical wisdom made her a role model to her husband and children and beloved of everyone who knew her. She was married for 70 years to the late Robert Reichley and their love created four children: Nancy of Seattle, WA; David of Cambria Heights, NY; Rob of Charlotte, NC and John of Franklin, MA. As a result, an unshakable family bond continues to this day which, in addition to her four children, now includes six grandchildren: Matt, Katie, Nya, Robert, Jeremy and Emma, and two great-grandchildren, Isaiah and Nash. Her family was far and away the driving force in her life and the thing of which she was most proud. She enthusiastically attended her children’s basketball games, music recitals, and dance and theater concerts. She was always behind her family with love and encouragement.
Both of Sara’s parents were school teachers and her mother also taught piano. Consequently, Sara and her three siblings grew up learning to play musical instruments, which instilled in her a lifelong love of music. She and her husband avidly attended Rhode Island performing arts events, in particular, RI Philharmonic concerts. Together, they created the Sara and Robert A. Reichley Concert Fund at Brown University. She was a longtime member at Central Congregational Church in Providence. And in a place perfect for her love of books and reading, Sara worked for 18 years as a technical services librarian at The Providence Athenaeum. She and Bob loved learning about new cultures and seeing new places, traveling around the world for many years, always finding time for an annual trip to Maui for three decades.
She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother and she will always remain in our hearts.
The burial will be private; a memorial service will be announced at a later date.
