Obituary for Ellen M. Buegling
Ellen Marie Buegling, 94, a long-time resident of Rumford, RI passed away peacefully at Tockwotton on the Waterfront on December 17. Ellen was a well-traveled woman of grace and elegance; a graduate with highest honors from the College of Pharmacy, University of Rhode Island;
Ellen found the practice of her profession to be challenging in the 1950s as a woman. Not to be daunted, she made a career path change and poured her passion into a wonderful Internationally-focused leadership role with Transworld Airlines in both NYC and Boston for several decades.
She is pre-deceased by her beloved partner, (Orville Frederick) Fred Chaffee, with whom she enjoyed many memorable trips to Ireland. An active member of the Irish Ceildhe Club of Rhode Island and St. Margaret’s Church, Rumford, Ellen stayed active well into her retirement years doing volunteer work for the Off Campus Bookstore, with her wonderful friends Elizabeth and Dennis Hughes. Ellen will be most remembered for her great generosity and her keen sense of buying precious gifts for those she loved. Ellen is survived by many cousins including: Beth Sammis; Miriam Nally; Mary Shaw; Eileen Melley; Brian, Paul and Sean Toland; Patricia, Thomas, Sheila and Laurah Lennon; and many, many relatives in Ireland.
Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ellen’s memory may be made to the Irish Ceildhe Club of Rhode Island, 50 America St., Cranston, RI 02920.
