Obituary for William M. Keough, Jr.
William M. Keough, Jr., a longtime Rumford resident, died peacefully on Monday, April 17, 2017 surrounded by his family. He was the loyal and devoted husband of the late Esther Doyle Keough, to whom he was married for 67 years. Born in Berlin, New Hampshire, he was the son of the late William M. and Mary Hines Keough.
A graduate of the University of New Hampshire, he was captain of the 1943 UNH undefeated U.S. National Championship ski team competing in slalom, giant slalom, downhill, ski jumping, and cross country events. Upon graduation from college, he went to Officers Candidate School at Notre Dame University in South Bend, Indiana and consequently served in the Navy as a Lieutenant in World War II. He participated in the first wave of the Normandy invasion and its subsequent occupation, and was later stationed in the Pacific theater.
Bill worked at International Paper Company as a sales representative for 43 years. He was a long time member of the Wannamoisett Country Club and communicant of St. Margaret’s Church.
Bill was a wonderful father, grandfather, and great grandfather who loved his home and family and was always present in their lives. He is survived by his two daughters, Ann Keough Ullucci and her husband Michael of Tiverton, Patricia Keough Almquist and her husband Glenn of Rumford, his son William M. Keough III of Rumford, his brother John Keough of Berlin, New Hampshire, his 5 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Calling hours will be Thursday from 9am – 10:30am at Monahan Drabble Sherman Funeral Home, 230 Waterman Street, Providence, RI with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am in St. Margaret’s Church, 1098 Pawtucket Ave., Rumford, RI. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in William’s memory to The Little Sisters of the Poor, 964 Main St., Pawtucket, RI 02860.
