Obituary for Robert F. Longtin
ROBERT FRANCIS LONGTIN
November 14, 1931 to May 3, 2020

Beloved husband of Gladys (Pichie) Longtin for 68 years passed away peacefully. Gladys remains strong and comforted by her love for and fond memories of Robert and their family.

Robert and Gladys had an amazing life. They had two children, Richard R. and his wife Diane; and Michael P. and his wife Lori. Robert was the proud grandfather of Jessica (Longtin) Dower; Ashley (Longtin) Delahunt and Robert Michael Longtin the loving great-grandfather of Kaiden and Andre Delahunt.

Robert was the brother of Donald Longtin, the late Leo Paul Longtin, Doris Leonard, and Florence Garceau.

Robert and Gladys enjoyed their retirement in Citrus Hills, Florida from 1983 until just this past November when they moved back to RI.

Robert was always a remarkable man. After finishing 8th grade in Woonsocket public schools, he immediately began working: he set up bowling pins and worked as a delivery person for an automotive store, among other things.

After marrying Gladys at age 20, they began a fish and chip business in a garage in Central Falls. Afterward, they opened Bobbi’s catering which was a very successful business.

Following several years of hard work, Robert and Gladys sold their business and traveled cross country in their Cadillac.

Thereafter, Gladys enrolled in and completed nursing school as an RN. Meanwhile, they purchased and ran Tony’s Tap on Federal Hill in Providence, which was also a very successful business.

At age 49, Robert and Gladys were able to retire to Florida where they enjoyed a much deserved high life of golf, poker games, and community programs all the while maintaining contact with their family in Rhode Island.

Robert was an incredible entrepreneur. He once made a deal while boating on Echo Lake with a man who was just posting a “For Sale” sign. He put together a deposit, on the spot, for the lakefront home by pooling the money on board.

More importantly, Robert was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather who will be sorely missed by Gladys, his family, and the people he has touched throughout his life.

Consistent with precautions due to the Coronavirus, A celebration of Mr. Longtin's life will be held at a future date.

Contributions can be made in Mr. Longtin’s memory to the A.L.S. Association, Gift Processing Center, PO Box 37022, Boone, IA 50037-0022. A disease that his sisters and a niece and nephew have endured.
