Obituary for Zenas W. Bliss
Zenas W. Bliss II (Zene/Papa), 95, of East Providence, RI, died peacefully on Saturday, September 4, 2021. He is preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Janet D. M. Bliss.
Born on October 12, 1925, he was the son of Zenas Randall Bliss II and Alice W. Bliss, of Providence, RI. A lifelong “Rhode Islander”, living in East Providence and Matunuck, Rhode Island.
Zenas was a graduate of Moses Brown School, class of 1944 and Brown University, School of Engineering, class of 1949. He was a dedicated WWII Army veteran and proudly served in the Rhode Island National Guard following the war.
Zenas spent his career working for Factory Mutual Global as an engineer. He retired at the age of 57 and spent most of his retired life traveling the world, mostly with his wife, and in more recent years his grandchildren. His travels took him to six of the seven continents multiple times. He loved meeting new people and learning about the many ecosystems of the world.
Zenas was also an avid sailor and yachtsman, finding much joy being on the ocean, especially the waters off the Rhode Island coastline.
He loved sharing the stories of his life with his family and friends. Zenas leaves the legacy of a life well lived. One of his greatest joys was seeing the people who were important to him succeed. He did anything he could to help others reach their goals. He was a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to many.
Zenas is survived by his son; Zenas Fraser Bliss and his wife, Carol Ann Bliss; his granddaughter Amory Bliss Martland and her husband, Andrew Stephen Martland; and their two sons; and his grandson Zenas Fraser Bliss Jr.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date for the family.

One of Zenas’s most favorite places to travel was Eastern and Southern Africa. If you would like to make a donation in Zenas’s name, the family asks that donations be made to the Elephant Protection Initiative. EPI aids in the conservation and harmonious coexistence of the people and elephants of Africa. Donations can be made at https://www.elephantprotectioninitiative.org/ .
