Obituary for Truman Claudius Bledsoe
Terry Bledsoe, 81, died Dec. 12 in Providence RI after a long illness.

Terry was born Aug. 4, 1934 in Chicago Illinois. After his father was mortally wounded during the Battle of the Bulge in 1945, he and his mother moved to Clinton, Iowa where he met the future love of his life, Shirley Miller, when both were in the fifth grade.

He was a sportswriter for the Milwaukee Journal covering the Green Bay Packers and wrote a prize-winning column, "In This Corner." He was named Wisconsin Sportswriter of the Year several years in a row.

He joined the National Football League Management Council in 1973 and was an integral part of the negotiations that led to the landmark 1977 Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Over the course of his career with the National Football League, he served as General Manager for the Buffalo Bills and held senior management positions with the New York Giants, the Cleveland Browns, and the Phoenix Cardinals.

His children and grandchildren remember him simply as being the best dad and grandpa. He taught his sons to be good husbands and taught his daughters what to look for when choosing a husband.

He was a gentle, kind, loving, smart, and funny man. He loved his family with all his heart and his family loved him the same way. Family vacations to Waupaca, Wis., Cape Cod, and lastly a 50th wedding anniversary family reunion in Vermont in 2006 were filled with laughter and love.

Christmas Eve this year will be especially poignant. Every year from the beginning of each of his children's memories, the final piece of Christmas Eve just before bundling the children off to bed he read "Twas the Night Before Christmas."
He is survived by Shirley, his wife of 59 years, six children, Anne Alba (Peter), Chris Bledsoe (Marlene Stager), Tom Bledsoe (Cathy), Katie George (Dave), Carolyn Holmes (Phil), and Ellie Loomis (Don); and 13 grandchildren.
A Requiem Eucharist will be held Tuesday at 11AM in St. Stephen’s Church, George St., Providence. Burial will be private. Donations in his memory may be made to Alzheimer’s Association.
