Theodora M. (Grant) Katz, 91 formerly of Smithfield and Providence died Wednesday at St Antoine’s. She was the wife of the late Nathan Katz.
Born in Woonsocket a daughter of the late Walter A. and Bertha (Legare) Grant she lived in Providence moving to Smithfield 15 years ago.
She worked as a secretary to Congressman John Fogarty from 1952 to 1958 and later for the US Foreign Service, working on economic assistance for third world countries for 18 years retiring in 1975. During that time she worked in Thailand, Morocco, Nepal, Cambodia and Senegal
She had been a member of Hamilton House in Providence and the Smithfield Senior Center.
She leaves 2 step-sons; Richard A. Katz of East Lyme, Ct. and Donald E. Katz of Nashua, NH, a sister in law Joan Grant of St Augustine, FL, , 3 nephews, a niece, 3 grand nephews, grand niece and 3 step grandchildren . She was the sister of the late J. Walter and Jane Ann Grant.
The funeral will be held Thursday at 9am from the Monahan Drabble Sherman Funeral Home 230 Waterman St., Providence with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 in Our Lady Chapel of Holy Name Church, Camp St., Providence. Calling hours Wednesday 5-8. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Holy Name Church.
