It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Susan G. Belles on November 16, 2024, at the age of 87 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.
A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and New York University, Sue was dedicated to a career in public and community health. She began her career as a visiting nurse and served as an executive for homecare and hospice services in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Maine. She moved to Providence over 30 years ago, where she loved and embraced the Providence community. She served as the CEO of Lifespan Diversified Services and after retirement, served as the President of Leadership Rhode Island. She also volunteered as an executive mentor with Executive Service Corps RI and served on the State Governing Board of Common Cause RI. She was committed to community service, sharing her talents as a long-time member of Beneficent Congregational Church in Providence.
Sue was an avid cyclist; she explored many countries on cycling tours and completed 100-mile century rides. She had a love of travel, art, history, international politics, and alternative health and healing. She was a firm believer in lifetime learning and continually sought out educational opportunities and new learning experiences. She was an avid reader and loved to share what she learned with others. She was a bright, vivacious, and sharply witty woman who was a dedicated to family and friends. Susan lived life to the fullest and completely on her on her own terms.
She is survived by her proud and loving family: children Michael Belles and wife Katherine of Cardiff, CA, Jennifer Belles Luken and husband Todd of Arlington, VA; and beloved granddaughter, Emma Luken.
At Sue’s request, no funeral service will be held. A private family memorial will be conducted at a later date. In remembrance of Sue, please consider making a donation to Beneficent Congregational Church, a community she loved and where she was loved: https://beneficentchurch.org/.
