Obituary for Susan Dunn
Susan Dunn, 66, devoted mother, sister, and longtime eldercare professional, died peacefully at home Dec 11. Susan was predeceased by her parents Clayton and Helen Cromack of Greenfield MA, where Clayton was former fire chief.
Born in Greenfield in 1954, Susan left western Massachusetts for Boston to pursue a BFA from Mass Art. Having earned her degree, she worked as a teacher and banker before finding her love of eldercare. Her job as Activity Director at Summit Medical Center in Providence was the beginning of a long career working in nursing homes and care facilities, using her talent for the arts to enrich the lives of the elderly.
Susan was devoted to her daughter Jessica. As Jessica’s career in music flourished, Susan attended every concert and musical event. They spoke on the phone every day.
Susan’s talents for art and knitting were complimented by her love of animals and for helping others. She was a member, along with her father, of the Ford Model A Restorers of America, driving their 1929 Phaeton in parades and shows all over New England and beyond. Upon moving to Rhode Island, Susan joined the Little Rhodies and continued showcasing her classic car.
A convert to Catholicism, Susan’s desire to learn about and grow ever deeper in her faith was boundless. She was an active parishioner at St. Raymond’s Catholic Church in Providence, were among other things she used her artistic skills in serving the prayer shawl ministry.
She is survived by a daughter, Jessica Valentino and her husband Patrick, and their children, Charles and Sophia of Tewksbury MA., a brother, Gary Cromack and his wife Patti, and their daughter Erin of Greenfield MA.
Susans’ Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30AM on Friday, December 18th at St Raymond’s Church, 1240 North Main Street in Providence. Private family burial in North Meadow’s Cemetery in Greenfield, MA.
