Obituary for Shirley Norma Chace
Shirley Norma Chace, 93, passed away on Tuesday, November 18. She was born in Providence, RI, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Kip I. Chace and sister of the late Kip I. Chace, Jr. Shirley's family moved to Harmony, RI where she attended a one-room school, and then graduated from Northfield Seminary. She attended Westminster Choir College in Princeton, New Jersey, where she graduated with a degree in sacred music. While there, she sang in the a cappella choir which sometimes performed with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. Shirley moved to California and taught music in the public schools for 28 years. After retirement, she returned to Providence to take care of her mother. Shirley was an active member of St. Martin's Episcopal Church and trained as a spiritual director. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. A most happy and gratifying part of her life came in her later years when she and a very caring Muslim adopted each other as "son" and "second mom". She was taken into his large family and treated with love and respect by his wife, four children, his brothers and sisters and their families. Shirley will be missed by all who knew her loving ways and her deep spiritual wisdom.
The funeral service will be held Thursday at 11am in St Martin’s Church, Orchard Ave., Providence.
