Samir Moubayed, MD, 98, a long-time obstetrician and gynecologist with OBGYN Associates, Inc., died peacefully at HopeHealth Hospice on Saturday, July 1. Born in Alexandria, Egypt, the son of George and Renee Moubayed, he was the husband of Susan H. Moubayed. He was a graduate of Victoria College, Alexandria, and Alexandria University Medical School. After practicing medicine in Egypt for 10 years, he spent one year working for the United Nations in the Congo. He immigrated to the United States in l963 on a political refugee visa. In Rhode Island he was on the staffs of Women and Infants', Rhode Island, and Miriam Hospitals. He was a Life Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, a Diplomat of the American Board of OBGYN, a member of the Rhode Island Medical Society, and Clinical Associate Professor Emeritus at Brown University. He is survived by his wife, Susan Moubayed, three sons, Shereen Moubayed of Wilton, CT, John Moubayed of Falmouth, MA, and Peter Moubayed of Swansea, MA, a step daughter, Leslie Eimas of Fabius, NY, a brother, Remy Moubayed of Montreal, Canada, and nine grandchildren: Ian, Dani, Catherine, Morgan, Sophia, and Zander Moubayed, and Mari, Rachel and William Eimas-Dietrich. He was predeceased by two sisters, May Fernaine and Yvette Fayad, both of Beirut, Lebanon, and one brother, Favy Moubayed of Montevideo, Uruguay.
At his request burial will be private. A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date.
