Obituary for Roger E. Osborne
83, of Glocester died Saturday at home surrounded by his family. Born in Norwood MA and raised in Stoughton MA, he was the son of the late Floyd and Evelyn (Marston) Osborne and bother of late Chester Osborne. He was a resident of Chepachet, RI for 31 years.
He was the beloved husband of late Judy Louise (Hyslop) Osborne and then Barbara (Cartwright) Griffing Osborne. Besides his wife, he leaves his daughter Jennifer Osborne and her children Andrew and Elizabeth who were the light of his life. He also was the father of late Susan Osborne. In addition, he leaves his step- daughter Kimberly Allen and her son Charlie.
Roger was a funeral director in the city of Providence for many years, first as the owner of the Drabble Sherman Funeral home on Benefit St. which then merged with Monahan Funeral home in Wayland Square in 1994. He was highly respected and spent many years caring for families there. He also was active in his community as the President of The Samaritans, a member of the Squantum Association, the Rotary Club, the 100 Club and Mathewson Street United Methodist Church where he and his late wife were instrumental in the establishment of the first food bank. He lived by the quote, “Life is Good.”
Calling hours will be on Thursday from 3-6PM at the Monahan Drabble Sherman Funeral home located at 210 Taunton Ave. East Providence, RI. The Funeral Service will he held Friday at noon in Central Congregational Church, Angel St. Providence, RI. All are welcomed to celebrate his life. Donations in his memory can be sent to the Alzheimer’s society to further aid in treatment for the future generation. or to Beacon Hospice.
