Obituary for Robert Meehan
Robert A. Meehan, 94, of Providence died Sunday at the Hattie Ide Chaffee Home in East Providence. He was the husband of the late Bethiena C. (Campbell) Meehan.
Born in Worcester, Ma. a son of the late Thomas J. and Florence (Rourke) Meehan he was a Providence resident for many years.
He graduated from Hope High School Class of 1937 and the College of the Holy Cross, Class of 1941. From 1941 to 1944 he worked for the John J. Orr Stevedore Co. shipping war materials for the US Navy. From 1944 to 1953, he was a staff announcer for radio station WEAN in Providence, part of the former Yankee Network. In 1954 he joined the George T. Metcalf Co.. a Providence advertising agency. In 1964, he opened his own advertising agency, the Robert A. Meehan Co. In 1974 he merged with and later purchased the Joseph Maxfield advertising Agency. In 1986 he merged Maxfield into Streicker & Co. He retired in 1996.
Bob was a board member and past president of the Providence Advertising Club and the Providence Child Guidance Clinic. He had also been a member of the University Club, the AE Club, a board member of the Big Brothers of R.I. and the Providence YMCA., the United Way and R.I. Historical Society.  He was a member of the Providence Players and the Shakespearean Society.
He leaves 3 stepchildren: Thomas E. Prendergast of Alfred ,Maine, Donald C. Prendergast of Yam Hill, OR., Tracey E. Petersen  of Brattleboro, VT. Six step grandchildren and one great Step grandchild. He was the brother of the late Thomas Meehan Jr and the late Florence Harrison.
